A notebook for the everyday

Field Notes

Small observations on gardens, walking, and making things by hand.

A quieter corner

A few pots can change the feeling of a small outdoor space. Herbs are a useful place to begin: a sunny spot, a little water, and the occasional handful of leaves for the kitchen.

Leave room between the pots so the leaves can dry after rain. The simplest arrangement is often the easiest one to look after.

Taking the longer way

A familiar walk looks different when there is no hurry. Notice the changing light, the trees along the road, and the places where the path bends out of sight.
